Cathy Thomas Hess Presented Founder’s Award
Orlando, Florida - (September 28, 2006) Cathy Thomas Hess, RN, BSN, CWOCN, was honored as the 2006 recipient of the Sharon Baranoski Founder’s Award.
This prestigious Award, established in 1997, honors healthcare professionals in the overall pursuit of excellence in the field of skin and wound care. The Award recognizes an individual or group that best exemplifies creative practice strategies that have enhanced the care of patients with wounds.
Upon presenting the Award, Sharon Baranoki stated, “Cathy has worked over 20 years in the field of skin and wound care. She has worked in acute care, home care, outpatient and long term care. She has developed and mentored many nurses throughout her 20 years of experience. She has mastered all of the criteria for excellence in the following areas: innovative approaches to educating health care professionals; efficient use of cost/benefit principles to enhance productivity and care of patients; and a leadership style that has promoted personal and professional growth in the field of wound care.”
“I am speechless and deeply honored” said Cathy Hess upon accepting the Award. “Last night when I was saying goodnight to my boys I decided to tell them I would be receiving an award. My eldest son, soon to be 15, wanted to know what type of an award and what would I win, as if he thought I was winning a car for him. My younger son said, “Why are you getting an award Mommy?” I said that it recognizes the work Mommy has accomplished in her job. He went on to ask, ‘Does everyone who helps people get an award?’ I said yes. And to that point I would like to share this award with each and every one of you that has the passion, drive and commitment to get up each day and make the world a better place.”
