Skin and Wound Caring

As we learned in the "Healing" section, wounds heal in phases. For the different phases of the healing process there are different types of products available. A particular dressing, for example, may protect the skin and wound from such things as scrapes, germs and outside irritants including bacteria. Another dressing may be used to reduce swelling, or keep the skin and wound at a constant temperature. Or again, depending on the type of dressing, it may absorb moisture when needed, or keep the wound moist when necessary. And there are many products available for the bed and chair to keep pressure reduced. Support surfaces and pressure relieving devices are available for various and specific needs.

For your convenience, we have prepared a comprehensive list of products and the companies that make skin and wound care products, as well as other important products, tools, and modalities to assist in skin and wound caring. Here you will be able to learn about each company's products, and keep current with new products and technologies. By contacting these companies they can provide you with additional information about their products and services to better assist you during your healing process. Some companies may handle your order on-line, over the telephone, or refer you to a medical supply company in your area.

Please remember that it is important to discuss your needs with your primary care provider first.
