Our Skin

Did you know - our skin is our body's largest organ?

Our skin is our first line of defense when it comes to protecting us from the environment. Too often we realize the attention we need to care for our skin comes only after we encounter a problem. So, being proactive in skin care is essential.

Our skin has two layers: an outer layer (the epidermis), which acts as a physical barrier to dirt, bacteria, etc., and an inner layer (the dermis), which provides strength, support, blood, and oxygen to our skin. Our skin provides us with protection, sensation, maintaining our body temperature (thermoregulation), metabolism, and the ability to discharge waste (e.g., sweat, urine) from our blood, tissues and organs, as well as impacting our appearance.

Aging, bathing, cleansers, dryness, friction, lotions, moisturizers, nutrition, soaps, and abrasive forces are all factors affecting our skin. Realizing how we care for our skin is our first defense in preventing damage.

Did you know-our skin makes up 10% of our body's weight?
