Introduction

Are you providing your own skin and wound care? Are you providing care for another? Have you been managing this wound for quite some time?

We can assist you.

In today's environment, you must be in a position to take charge and actively manage your care, or have someone actively managed your care. Skin and wound caring may seem a bit complicated, but armed with the proper knowledge, you will be able to have confidence in your abilities. And you will gain confidence in the abilities of others providing your care, or care for someone you know. This is possible by:

1. Understanding your special needs
2. Taking control
3. Partnering with your physician
4. Asking questions

Before we begin, please keep in mind that the use of a web site does not take the place of your physician or practitioner. The information we offer is provided to empower you with knowledge and assistance in learning about skin and wound caring. Use this information to augment your existing background information. You will then be better prepared to frame questions for your primary care provider.

Information presented throughout this Consumer's Education section of our web site will provide you with some basic knowledge about your skin. While you review the information, take some notes. Then take these notes to your physician or primary care giver and ask questions. Seek second opinions, if necessary. And make sure someone you trust assists you in your decision making process if things get too complicated. You need to be comfortable with the care you receive.

[Note: The section, "Definitions, Products, and Manufacturers" will take you to a list of categories from which to select generic wound and skin care product categories. This list will lead you to specific products and their respective company. Please be advised, some products require prescriptions written by your physician, while other products can be purchased over the counter - without a prescription].

My mother is being debrided at the hospital and upon release will be cared for by me with what I have learned from your website. Thank you for being there for me...A happy day for me among several dismal days." S.M., San Diego, CA
